RAILHEAD
CPRE RAIL TERMINAL MEETING 23rd MAY SEE BELOW
See Paul Carters speech from Wrotham School CPRE Meeting http://www.youtube.com/user/ProtectKent This is an important speech because he categorically commits KCC funds against the Railfreight proposal.
JOIN IN THE WILDLIFE SURVEY, Borough Green resident Jo Richards is compiling a wildlife survey of all the areas surrounding the site, to reinforce the evidence about the site: read her page at http://boroughgreen-news.com.istemp.com/photo6.html and fill in a survey form.
MORE KR*P LIES: If you want a flavour of the depths the KR*P developers will sink to, have a look at their KIG submission, discovered by BG Chair Steve Perry at : http://www.persona.uk.com/kent/otherdocuments.htm
but allow a couple of hours, and have a bucket handy.......
STOP BIG MEETING REPORT
An extremely well attended meeting. with proceedings started with a very passionate speech about the importance of the countryside by Nick Herbert MP, Shadow Secretary of Environment Food & Rural Affairs. The key pledge in his speech confirmed that a Conservative Government if elected, would immediately scrap the Infrastructure Planning Commission, which is the route our local greedy developers hope to use to circumvent the normal stringent and democratic planning control on Greenbelt land.
There were further speeches by CPRE National and Protect Kent, Sir John Stanley MP, and Leader of KCC Paul Carter, all pledging their support in our fight. Matthew Balfour (T&MBC) made a short but very carefully phrased speech inferring that the devlopers would have a very hard time if an application came forward.
Paul Carter, Tim Shaw and Harry Rayner all spoke briefly about our Bypass, confirming the strong concensus that it must be publicly funded, but with a broad agreement that the planning application should be deferred whilst the Railfreight Scheme threatens, because of the very real danger of the vultures seizing it as a justification for their horrendous project.
Cemex and Body have the glint of gold in their eyes, they will not back off without a fight, and we must all join the struggle against them. If that means we lose funding for the new Potters Mede, so be it : we cannot be bought !!!
If you want to be lied to about the railfreight depot, visit http://www.krft.co.uk/index.html , if you want the truth, come here.
A Brief Selection of KRAFT's Better Lies.........
KRAFT CLAIM "its all industrial land." LIE ! It is either greenbelt agricultural land, or sandpits under temporary release from Greenbelt to allow Mineral Extraction. There are very strong planning conditions that will legally compel the reinstatement of this land
KRAFT CLAIM "It will provide a bypass giving much needed traffic relief to Borough Green and Platt. LIE ! it will generate thousands of vehicle movements: this is not a bypass, its an industrial estate spine road
KRAFT CLAIM " We are providing 3 huge ponds for amphibious wildlife" LIE ! They have to provide surge ponds for surface runoff, and to contain industrial spills and firefighting runoff.
KRAFT CLAIM " The warehouses are only 14 mteres high and will hardly be visible" LIE ! Because you can't build railways uphill, the warehouses with rail access must be on the same level as the main line over this short distance. Therefore the 14mtr (46ft) warehouses will protrude between 16 and 46ft above the main line embankments. They will be visible throughout most of the 3 villages.
KRAFT CLAIM "The Govt & SE Plan needs 3 railfreight depots around London, and this is the best place" LIE ! The best place is where the Government has granted planning permission at Slade Green, Dartford, which also has river access.
KRAFT CLAIM "Will take 1000s of HGVs off County Roads" LIE ! It will actually bring 1000s of HGV loads into Kent for onward HGV haulage STILL THROUGH KENT
KRAFT CLAIM "Crucial Trading Link with European Partners" LIE ! There are no major trading companies here in rural Kent that will require 12 freight trains a day in and out of Europe
RAILHEAD PETITION......Rob Payne's petition on the Downing Street website, at http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/StopBIG/ is now up to 729 as of 23rd November, that should get Gordon's attention, but lets head for the 1000 now.......

For the duration of this campaign, the other news and links has moved to page 2, "NEWS & LINKS"
(Snappy title, I know, almost poetry
The top map shows the general layout of the entire site, stretching from the A227 Wrotham Rd to the A20 at Nepicar, and the M26 south to the railway line and A25 Maidstone Rd. They have suggested that the estate spine road will be the "Borough Green and Platt Bypass" I suspect they may need a slightly larger sweetener to get local communities to swallow this medicine.
I note the curious northward twist at the western end of this fabulous new Bypass: it couldn't possibly be so that Cemex don't lose any of their housing development site, could it? Oops ! Sorry about that, meant to say "greenbelt restored to agriculture". Slip of the tongue!
The sketch below shows the buildings proposed, but of course, this is only a concept! The lower right hand shed will actually cover the whole of the existing Platt Industrial Estate, including the Calor building. And it is 14metres high. Still, Lingfield Road won't get any more sand blowing over the railway line, so its not all bad news.
I did suggest to the architect that they had missed a trick : If they filled in the gap between the two large sheds, they could bring in Airfreight as well!
