 MANIFESTO PLEDGE

A Parish Council's main function is to represent and focus the views of the people. We pledge to improve transparency and public participation in the way the Parish Council works

BG-TAG - Mike & Tim founded BG-TAG to successfully campaign for the three pedestrian crossings, organising Protest Marches and lobbying Parish, Borough and Kent County Councils. The final crossing at the Red Lion should be completed shortly.

BYPASS campaign is passionately driven by Tim and Mike, who fought the 2005 KCC elections on a "Vote Bypass" ticket, and will maintain its ABSOLUTE PRIORITY. We were also instrumental in overturning BGPC's attempt to block the Celcon Planning Application for a new factory that would have paid for the Bypass. We gave personal evidence at both KCC Planning Hearings and the subsequent Planning Inquiry, which we attended every single day. As Borough Green would have been the prime beneficiary of the Bypass, BGPC should have arranged attendance every day. In any future Inquiry BGPC WILL BE a Rule 6 Participant.

EAST FACING SLIPS: Tim has worked hard to bring together communities along the A25 corridor to ensure that local wishes are given greater priority when the Highways Agency plans the imminent widening of the M25 at Junction 5. In the past the Slips at Sevenoaks have been used as an excuse not to build the Bypass, but with KCC now fully behind the Bypass, the time has come to support this complementary scheme.

THE FOUR PARISH ALLIANCE was the brainchild of Tim and Mike, an attempt to unite Borough Green, Wrotham, Ightham and St Mary's Platt under one banner, to create a unified LOUD voice on local area policy that would have greater effect than individual Parish Councils. We may not have been invited to attend the fledgling Alliance, but at least we succeeded in getting them talking.

ISLES QUARRY. Mike has been a vociferous campaigner against T&MBC's plans with Hanson to build 200 houses at Isles Quarry West. A place on the Parish Council will ensure that the wishes of the electorate as expressed in the Parish Poll will become Parish Council policy. We will also ensure that Isles Quarry East will be opened to the Public as required by the 1997 Planning Permission.

The PAVILION and TOILET in the Recreation Ground have been the subject of long running bitter campaigns. The derelict state of the Pavilion, our WAR MEMORIAL, and the closure of a perfectly sound Public Toilet are matters which must be redressed without any further delay or discussion. Public Spaces have been allowed to generally deteriorate over the years, and action is needed to address poor management and control, and lack of investement

TIM SHAW was born in Borough Green, is married to Sonia and they have three daughters. He is a Business Systems Consultant, and helps run the Freeway Youth Group,

MIKE TAYLOR  has lived in the area for 40 years, and is married to Jackie who was born here. He runs the Drop-in Centre and Skatepark, and works for the community.

We firmly believe that a place on the Parish Council is not just a once a month outing, and the power that an Active Parish Council can wield if it wants to can have a major effect on our Village and Our Lives.
